DANCE SPECTACULAR 2022 - GOING SOLO, OH YEAH YOLO!
Over a thousand people attended Monday and Tuesday nights’ performances at the Glasshouse of ‘Going Solo, Oh Yeah YOLO’. There was definitely a pre-Covid feel in the house, with great excitement both back stage and in the audience. We were delighted to have Angus Hawkes come along on Tuesday night, with Year 5 finishing the evening with a very robust performance of Happy Birthday to Angus for Sunday.
Both nights were outstanding successes where children, staff and the Glasshouse team worked very cohesively and with great energy and spirit to entertain very engaged and appreciative crowds.
I would like to extend very sincere thanks to:
- Mrs Julie-Anne and Miss Eliza, our outstanding dance instructors.
- Mrs Michelle Baird, School Dance Manager and Coordinator.
- Mrs Natalie Jennings, Mrs Natalie Stewart, Ms Natalie McKenzie, Miss Holly Swadling, Miss Ashleigh Fowler, Mrs Rachael Cullen, Mrs Kathy Gilmour, Mrs Kylie Kipreotis, Miss Karen Robson- Dance Eisteddfod team facilitators.
- Mrs Christine Hickson, Mrs Annette Grant, Ms Tracey Kirkman and Mrs Tamie Walker - outstanding work in promotion and smooth running of the administration.
- St Peter’s Staff – wonderful generosity in time and energy and support of our little people.
- Parents and carers – for the great support you provide your children in preparation and costuming and being a wonderful audience on both nights.
- Anne Johnston - for her 'amazing' photography (sneak peak of some below)
- OUR LITTLE PEOPLE - Will let the pictures do the talking!

Please read this short reflection from Mrs Baird
I am completely in awe, and super proud of all the wonderful students in our school! Nine weeks of 30 minute dance lessons culminated in the amazing performances that our students presented to you on Monday and Tuesday evenings. I am very aware that for some students, performing on stage is quite a difficult thing to do. It certainly takes a whole lot of courage and I am very grateful to everyone who overcame their fear or nerves and gave it a go. Every student in our school participated and the energy behind the scenes and on stage was electric. The excitement and sense of achievement is to be celebrated and congratulated.
Miss Julie- Anne our dance teacher is extremely talented and incredible. Every year, Julie-Anne choreographs 20 different class dances and 5 eisteddfod groups. She has such an amazing relationship with the students in our school and is able to break down the individual moves into child friendly language with humour and excitement.
Once again thank you for coming along to support the St Peter’s Dance Concert. Students are already asking what the songs will be next year…..

CONCERT BAND PERFORMANCE
Thank you to the St Peter's Concert Band for their magnificent opening performances each evening. A huge thank you to our Band teachers from BluGum Frank Ruger, Ann Hamilton and Bec Eakin, for preparing the children so well in the weeks leading up to the concert.
DANCE EISTEDDFOD
Five Dance Eisteddfod teams from St Peter’s represented the school very proudly on Thursday night at the Port Macquarie Dance Eisteddfod. Each of the teams has placed long and very committed hours into finely polished performances, and after a massive week of dancing and netball, did us very proud. Congratulations to all and, again, thank you to all the teachers involved in supporting these teams. See further in the newsletter for our amazing results!

MISSION
OUR CONTINUING PRAYERS FOR HARRISON
We have had some positive news from Harrison's family, with him making some pleasing progress in his recovery. We continue to ask our community to join in praying for Harrison and his family as he continues his medical treatment in Sydney.
Loving Father
Lord of healing and compassion
We pray for Harrison’s recovery.
Let your power of healing shine onto this little one,
so that he is free of pain and sickness.
We ask this through Christ our Lord,
Amen
YEAR 4 ATTEND ST FRANCIS OF ASSISI MASS
This week, Year 4 Green attended Mass accompanied by Mrs Tink, Mrs Geary and Mrs Thomas. Lennex Arkinstall did a wonderful job reading and the whole class represented St Peter’s with reverence and respect.
A PRAYER FOR THE HOLIDAYSWe thank you Lord, for this term. For the challenges, the successes, and the mistakes from which we have learnt. Be with us as we spend our time with family and friends. Give us strength and courage to do what is right; to be witnesses of our faith. Help us to be a practical Christian these holidays, to appreciate what others do for us, to give time and effort to help others, to be peacemakers in our family. Keep us safe in our activities; give us good rest and good fun. Bring us back refreshed and ready for a new term. We thank you for our classmates, teachers, parents and a community that cares for us. May we always be conscious of you in our lives. Amen |

SO CLOSE
3RD IN THE DIOCESE
Our Netball Team on Wednesday competed at the Lismore Diocesan Finals in Grafton. The girls had a great win against St Augustines of Coffs Harbour, and unfortunately drew their final game, which knocked them out of the Grand Final game. A big thank you to our families and our coaches (Miss McKenzie and Miss Dal Santo) for your outstanding efforts.
ALL SCHOOLS RUGBY LEAGUE HASTINGS SCHOOLS GALA DAY
On Tuesday, 55 students attended the All Schools Hastings Rugby League Gala Day in Port Macquarie. We had 4 teams competing, two Year 3/4 Teams and two Year 5/6 Teams. The competition in both divisions was tough and a great experience for all teams. Our Senior Team won the Open Division and our Year 4 Team were runners up in a tight game. Congratulations to our Year 5 and Year 3 teams who were playing against students a year older than them. A big thank you to Mr Garel, Mr Rowlatt and Mr Mitchell who coached the teams and provided wonderful guidance throughout the day.
SENIOR TEAM PLAYED THEIR LAST GAME
For the bulk of our Senior Rugby League Team, they played together for the last time as St Peter’s on Tuesday at the All Schools Hastings League Gala Day. It was just fascinating to listen to other teams' staff, families and players on their discussions around our team.
A comment I overheard was “This is the best team you will ever play against”.
A fitting tribute to an amazing team, and one that has sent us on a wonderful journey in 2022.
The team may never realise the enormity of what their efforts mean to us as a community. The team has brought us so much joy, happiness and excitement that will be remembered for many years to come. Shortly, anytime a person walks into the Don Farrell Hall, they will know what this team has achieved along with a number of other great sporting achievements that the mighty St Peter’s have won on the sporting fields over the years.
STATE CHAMPIONS MEDIA ALERT
Next month, our State Champions will appear in the Focus Magazine. We look forward to the article highlighting this amazing achievement.

Squeaky Clean in Year 3
As a part of our ‘States of Matter’ Science Unit, Year 3 students participated in a soap-making workshop. We have been learning about Solids, Liquids and Gases and the changing states of matter. The students firstly designed their soap, choosing the colour and scent and then discussed the chemical reactions that would occur, such as the changing from a solid, to a liquid and then back to a solid form. We used pure glycerine blocks, which we melted and added dye and essential oils. Some students then chose to add a few sparkles and maybe a small toy. The final products were very impressive and we are sure bath time has never been so fun. No excuses for forgetting to use the soap that night!

Sport has the Power to Change the World
Year 3 has had so much fun writing informative texts about The Commonwealth Games this term. It was great to be able to incorporate this topic into our Writing Unit. We firstly started learning about The Commonwealth Games in general, including ‘The Queen’s Baton Relay’, ‘Perry The Bull Mascot’ and ‘The Opening Ceremony.’ We then moved on to researching specific Sports, finding out that there are 10 core sports and then the host city can choose the other seven sports from a list of 22 sports. The next phase of our learning involved researching and presenting information about a chosen Commonwealth Games athlete, past or present. Finally, we crafted sizzling starts and composed exciting endings. We published our work using a program called, ‘Book Creator’ and each student produced a book about ‘The 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham’, complete with pictures and to a very high standard. Enjoy reading some of the students’ outstanding paragraphs.
Sizzling Start Competitive, compassionate, and crafty. 19 sports bringing everybody together. The Kookaburras dominating the arena, the Diamonds smashing Jamaica and The Dolphins pouring power in the pool. Let the games begin!

Rugby Sevens Did you know that in Rugby Sevens you can only throw the ball sideways or backwards? Fascinatingly a try in rugby equals 5 points, a conversion equals 2 points and a penalty kick equals 3 points. Interestingly in Rugby, you have to drop the ball on the ground before you kick it. In aRrugby game, you have to tackle the opponents and the boundaries are the sidelines. Tough, big, strong Wallabies players won gold in the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham 2022!! Tasman Lorger - 3 Green |
The Queen’s Baton Relay The Queen's Baton Relay is an intriguing race where the Queen writes a note specifically about one topic. The baton travels across the globe for 294 days stopping at all 72 Nations and Territories in the Commonwealth. Eventually ending up at Birmingham just in time for the Opening Ceremony where the Queen's note is revealed and read by the Queen or her representative. The baton needs time to travel around the world so the note was placed in the baton on the 8th of March 2021. This year will be the 16th official relay for the Commonwealth Games. The Queen's topic is to encourage young athletes and wish everyone good luck. Surprisingly, there is a 360-degree camera installed to show the baton's journey across the continents. This baton truly is extraordinary! Eva Kelly - 3 Green |
Sizzling Start Did you know that the Commonwealth Games are held every Four years? Interestingly, the Commonwealth Games is held in Birmingham this year in 2022. We discovered that the local people love this region for its cultural diversity and look forward to showing the world how Birmingham has evolved. The Commonwealth Games bring nations together, The Commonwealth Games are a festival of friends sea of colours and a party of light. The Commonwealth Games is a very big fantastic festival. So let's celebrate and cheer on Australia!
Maisie Prosser- 3 Blue |
Sizzling Start Compassion, comfort, connected. These are all words to describe how the athletes in the Commonwealth Games feel when competing. Emma McKeon, Peter Bol and Ariarne Titmus, just to name a few are some Aussie legends that just keep going. Did you know the Commonwealth Games were actually originated by a man named Lord Willingdon? GO AUSSIE GO! GO AUSSIE GO! GO AUSSIE GO! Milla Campbell - 3 Blue |
Sizzling Start Did you know that the Commonwealth Games are often referred to the friendly games? The first Commonwealth Games with an innovative idea to unite the Commonwealth family through sport. Commonwealth, competition, and Companion! I don't know if there are any other ways to describe the games. Aussie! Aussie! Aussie! Oi! Oi! Oi! Oliver McNeil - 3 Blue |
Badminton Have you heard of the outstanding sport called badminton? It´s the fastest racket sport in the world with the shuttlecock flying at a whopping 321kms per hour, that's faster than a car. Badminton is kind of like tennis but the rackets have a longer stick on the end of it and instead of a tennis ball they use something called a shuttlecock. It has been weighted on one side of it and the other side has feathers stuck to it. Badminton started around the 16th Century and is now played at an elite level at the Commonwealth Games and Olympics. The objective of the game is to have a two point lead while being at 21 points and then you will win the set. If you win three sets you win the match. How to get a point- you will have to hit the shuttle out after the shuttle has bounced in their square. Australia's best team at badminton is Wendy and Gronya. Lachlan Banham - 3 Red |
Opening Ceremony A party of light, a festival of friends! That is how you can describe the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony. One of the first things they did was make the Union Jack Blue, White and Red Cars. Next we could see a mechanical bull being pulled into Alexander Stadium! Can you believe that Australia was the first team to march around the stadium? Celebrities like Harry Styles came to the stadium to perform songs. 2000 performers performed in the Opening Ceremony isn't that amazing! There were also hot air balloons! The Opening Ceremony started at 7:00pm in Birmingham and went for 2 and a half hours. Lucas Power - 3 Red |

Book Fair
I am trialling something a little different this year and hosting a Virtual Book Fair. The books are divided into several categories, with differing price levels. Purchases can be made through the FlexiSchools site.
This is not a retail fair, rather it is an opportunity for families to purchase one or more books which will be donated to the Library. All purchases are acknowledged with a donation sticker and will be made available to donors to borrow once processed.
The fair will run until December 8, or until sold out.
