Creative Arts Showcases
What a wonderfully creative time of the year we are engaged in! Here are some events that are lighting up our end of term….
Yesterday afternoon, our students were fortunate to participate in and see our school Junior choir and school band perform at a special assembly. The band were able to show the instruments that can be learned through the band and tutors, while the choir brought Christmas to us with some wonderful carols. Thank you to all of the band leaders and Mrs Lawrence for this lovely showcase
Last night, parents were treated to a celebration of creative arts with the school band and members of the MacKillop bands showcasing their progress across the year in our school hall. By all accounts, there were some amazing performances and the wonderful opportunity to see where consistent practice and performance can lead as students move into high school. We thank all of the band leaders from Bluegum as well as MacKillop for leading the children in this evening. There were some students who joined us from other schools, showing what a great collaboration this can be. We are proud of our students as they have progressed, all the way from those just learning for the first time, to those who have been seasoned performers.
Tonight on Town Green, members of our school Senior choir will share the stage with students from St Agnes’ and St Joseph’s Primary Schools, performing carols for our Port Macquarie community. This is part of a community fair event and we are so excited to be involved. Mrs Packer and Mrs Lawrence have worked hard this year with our students to bring singing to school and community events and they are so excited that we have now joined with other schools to make it even more special! They will be singing from 4:30pm.
Next week, our Junior and Senior choirs will walk to Emmaus Village to bring some Christmas cheer to our aged residents. We are very much looking forward to sharing our love of singing with them and seeing their joy in spending time with our children. We thank Mrs Lawrence and Mrs Packer for making this possible.
MISSION
Advent
This Sunday is the beginning of Advent, one of the most important seasons in the church's calendar. Advent is a season of waiting and expectation for Christmas – the birth of Christ. As Catholics, we prepare for four weeks before Christmas so that we are ready to welcome Jesus into our hearts once again. Advent is also the beginning of the new church year. We encourage you to take time as a family to pause and reflect on the meaning of Christmas throughout the Advent season.
Some activities you could do at home are:
- Make an Advent Wreath and invite your little people to say a prayer as you light each candle on the 4 Sundays of Advent.
- Make a family Advent Calendar, counting down the four weeks until Christmas - instead of chocolates, you could include an act of kindness, a compliment, or a prayer.
Families are also welcome to join any of the masses across the Parish. See the website for times and location details.
Thank you, St Peter’s for your generosity!
Today, St Peter’s excitedly came to school in their Christmas best to raise money for the St Agnes’ Parish Christmas Hamper Appeal. All funds raised will go towards assembling some really special hampers for our community members who have or are experiencing difficult circumstances leading up to the Christmas season. Thank you, St Peter’s, for your generous donations!

Sprinkling kindness and positivity in Year 1
On Monday, Year 1 celebrated Fairy Bread Day (November, 24) with a focus on spreading positivity and sprinkling kindness. They explored informative procedural writing to create their instructions to make fairy bread. The day finished with students making their own fairy bread and of course, eating and enjoying their delicious creations!
ENHANCING SPORT THROUGH FAITH
“For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength. 13 Whatever I have, wherever I am, I can make it through anything in the One who makes me who I am.”
- Philippians 4:13
Let’s Go Jai
Our superstar Shot Put athlete has commenced his campaign at the National Athletics Championships in Sydney today, and the Championship will run over 5 days. This is another amazing achievement and we wish him the very best. I will provide links and updates to the event via the St Peter’s Sport Facebook page.
Jai will be competing on this Saturday at 1:40pm, so get ready to raise the roof off at home in support of Jai. We would love some pics of families supporting Jai this Saturday. Feel free to send them to jeff.arkinstall@lism.catholic.edu.au and we will post them in next week’s Postman Pete.
