IN THE SPOTLIGHT
This week’s “In the Spotlight” message is two of our Sports House Captains, Charlie and Alice, telling you about themselves and sharing their role. In the next two weeks, we will feature our other Sports House Captains.
DO YOU LOVE OUR PARISH ?
Please view this video from our Parish Priest Fr Paul Gooley, inviting all to our Parish Visioning Day, to be held at MacKillop College’s Lochinvar Centre on Sunday 28 May from 12-4pm, to help dream of the future for our Parish. All are welcome with childminding available, BBQ lunch to start the day and plenty of opportunities to talk to others. All are welcome to then join us for a wonderful narrated Mass in St Agnes’ Church and youth music from SJRC, followed by hospitality. What an amazing day! If you are coming, please register to assist with planning and catering. We hope to see you there.

MISSION
FIRST HOLY COMMUNION
More than 30 students from St Peter’s are joining other students across the Parish in preparing to make their Sacrament of First Holy Communion. Part of this preparation has been attending a narrated mass. During a narrated mass, the commentator explains the parts of the mass in the hope of bringing to the congregation a greater understanding of the celebration itself. The Mass consists of the following parts:
Introductory Rites - we gather together to praise God.
The Liturgy of the Word - we listen as one and reflect on God’s Word.
The Liturgy of the Eucharist - we together give thanks and remember how Christ gave himself for us.
The Communion Rite - we are nourished by the Body and Blood of Christ.
The Concluding Rites - we go out together to proclaim the Good News.
Please keep these children and their families in your prayers as they continue their preparations over the coming weeks.
KINDER CELEBRATION OF THE WORD
NATIONAL VOLUNTEER'S WEEK

Our school is enriched by its many volunteers. From the canteen, to family run clubs, to sporting events, P&F initiatives, Mothers and Father’s Day stalls and much much more. St Peter’s are so grateful for each and every person who gives of their time and talents in support for our community.
LEARNING
CREATIVE MINDS AND CREATIVE ARTS
Creative Arts at St Peter’s was all about imagination and teamwork this week, with Year 1 and 2 students working in groups to create whole class performances in Music and Dance. Mrs Lawrence, Mrs Packer, Mrs Gilmour and Mrs Turner are the dedicated and talented teachers behind Music, Dance and Drama at St Peter’s and they do an excellent job at teaching their students about all aspects of Creative Arts, including rehearsing and performing for an audience.
The images show Year 1 in the hall playing percussion instruments to classical music and Year 2 students creating their own dance parts for a whole class performance. St Peter’s teachers always encourage students to discover, develop and deploy their talents. Well done Year 1 and 2 students and teachers!

ENHANCING FAITH THROUGH SPORT
God doesn’t wait for you to get things right before he starts to love you.
Two weeks ago, I wrote about my visit to Homeboy Industries in Los Angeles. This visit had a dramatic effect on my life, and I’m sure the teachers that were with me also. After the staff meeting, we were invited to undertake a guided tour of the facility. We were taken outside between the two buildings and we sat around an outdoor seating area. Our tour guides name was Welman, who was an ex-gang member, and had been incarcerated for over 27 years. Although Welman showed us around the facility, it was the story of his struggle that was life changing. He knew he had done a number of wrong things in his life, and although knowing us for a brief time, he spilled his heart out on the table and shared his story. As we looked over his shoulder, he pointed out a number of large buildings a kilometre away, which each day reminded him to never go back. As a young boy he spent time at county jail, and ended up in prison for over 20 years. He got out and tried to get a job, and find somewhere to live and stay clean. He shared about how when people get out, how easy it is to go back to bad habits. But he knew, if he went back to addiction or crimes he would be back in jail for life. He knew he needed help. One night while at home, he got on his knees and cried and then he prayed to God, to help give him strength. After a shower and a sleep, he knew he had to ask for help and ended up at Homeboy Industries. Did Welman feel as if God gave up on him? On the contrary, God doesn’t wait for you to get things right before he starts to love you. Welman found God and he received his plan from God. In my quiet time, I think about Welman regularly, and trust he is well and undertaking what God had planned for him.
So how does this relate to sport? In sport, there are highs and lows, individuals and teams win and lose. What someone or a team wants to achieve doesn’t always go the way a person or group wants. One of the greatest basketballers of all time Lebron James, and in the 2011 NBA Finals against the Dallas Mavericks, the Cavs were beaten, and after the game, Lebron stated “The Greater Man upstairs knows when it is my time. Right now, it isn’t my time”. If things go wrong, or not the way you planned it to be or look like, remember, God doesn’t wait for you to get things right before he starts to love you.
LISMORE DIOCESE CROSS COUNTRY
A huge week for our Hastings Zone Cross Country representatives. The course itself was a true cross country and tested all athletes. Our kids as always gave 110%, and we congratulate them. We have a number of students moving onto Polding Trials in the coming weeks, and we wish the following students all the very best:
Mason Pope | James Millwarde | Hunter Pociask | Mason Duffy |
Jai Davis | Sebastian Thomas | Harrison Blackman | Paige Zvirzdinas |
Eleanor Campbell | Amelie Abi- Saab | Matilda Price | Amaya Davis |
CITIUS, ALTIUS, FORTIUS

On Wednesday, over 500 students got out and active throwing, jumping and running in our 2023 School Athletics Carnival. In perfect conditions, and a sea of red, yellow and green as each student tried their very best. From the excitement of throwing the discus, to the twirl at shot put when they pushed the put, to the huge amount of sand in their shoes as they jumped like their favourite super hero into the long jump pit, to the adrenaline of racing over 70m or 100m, the carnival was a major success. These carnivals just don’t run themselves, and we had Mrs Ryan, Mr Fisher, Mr Gallery, and Mrs Kipreotis at the venue at the crack of dawn setting up 20 plus tents and all things associated with the carnival. The event itself had all staff from St Peter’s on deck, as well as a large amount of volunteers. I say this time and time again, but these days can’t be a success without the support of families. So on behalf of 500 plus students, they say thank you.

It has been great to see so many students across our school reach 100 Dojo points over the past couple of weeks. The most popular choice at 100 points has been the ‘Bring your favourite soft toy to sit with for 1 week.’
Enjoy the pictures of our newest squishable and huggable learners in the classrooms.
PBS Value for Weeks 6 and 7- Being Respectful
At our Assembly today, our PBS Team talked about ‘Respect’ and what that looks like at St Peter’s.
National Sorry Day
Today, 26th May is National Sorry Day. The students learnt about the meaning of this day and then we talked about saying sorry in our own lives.
We all make mistakes. That’s how we learn and nobody is perfect. To show we are sorry we can :
- Admit when we are wrong
- Own our behaviours
- Say sorry
- Show we are sorry with our actions and not just words
- Learn from the experience and try not to make the same mistake again

Impetigo - (School Sores)The school has had recent reports of Impetigo. Impetigo is a highly contagious bacterial infection of the skin. Please be diligent in checking your children and seek medical advice. Impetigo SymptomsImpetigo starts as a red, itchy sore. As it heals, a crusty, yellow or “honey-colored” scab forms over the sore. In general, impetigo is a mild infection that can occur anywhere on the body. It most often affects exposed skin, such as around the nose and mouth.
