WHERE IS MRS KONING?
This week as I was “out and about”, I chose some grades to take some photos of their learning. From the clues, ask your children if they can tell you where I am.
PARTNERSHIP WITH OUR SCHOOL - NEW KINDERGARTEN 2024
St Peter's Primary - Monday 20th March @ 5.30pm
Please help us spread the word that St Agnes’ Parish schools are the place to be for Kindergarten 2024! St Peter’s will be holding our information night on Monday 20th March from 5:30pm-6:30pm, with a Principal introduction and then a “fair” style event where potential families can walk around the Kindergarten spaces talking to our welcoming staff and ask anything they would like to know.
PARTNERSHIP WITH OUR PARISH COMMUNITY
Our wonderful St Agnes’ Parish continues to support us in finding connection through prayer, reflection and community in this Lenten season, as we shared in our Week 5 news. Here are some resources that you may wish to engage with during this Lenten season between now and Easter.
Here is a link to the Living Hope webpage, where a variety of resources are freely available.
P & F COMMITEE FOR 2023
We are grateful for a great group of parents coming to our AGM (Annual General Meeting) this week and putting up their hands for the main roles to lead the group, as well as coming up with some great ideas to build community and fundraise for our school. The following parents will be inviting other parents across the year to support some key events. Once our staff have heard about the ideas, we will share what these are.
Thank you very much to our New Incoming Committee 2023

On behalf of St Peter’s, we will be offering a gift of appreciation to Kim for her service to the P&F. If you are lucky enough to catch this busy mum and community-minded lady, please express your thanks for all she has done for our school.

How exciting to see some families getting into the spirit of my challenge last week. We received a great number of responses, with many successful answers (including some alternative answers that are also correct). This week there is a new challenge - of a collection of rebus puzzles (picture-based riddles that usually have answers that have to do with common expressions); choose one and try not to look at the answers until you have tried to solve them!
If you would like to share your chosen rebus, please send them in by 3:30pm Thursday 23rd March in person or via school email pmacp@lism.catholic.edu.au Attention: Mrs Koning.
LEARNING
SPOTLIGHT ON KINDERGARTEN
Mathematics
Kindergarten have been busy in Mathematics this term, exploring numbers, shapes and patterns. They have been investigating how to sort and describe collections of objects and explain their choices to their peers. When exploring patterns, Kindergarten have been learning lots of new vocabulary and problem solving skills. We used colours, blocks, beads, links and other materials to copy, continue and make our own patterns. After discussing some patterns we saw we then continued to build them using the pattern core - the part that is repeated to make the pattern - AB in an ABABABAB pattern.

English
Kindergarten have been working hard across all areas of English this term. Utilising Initialit to learn and explore all about phonemic awareness, rhyming, letter/word/sentence awareness. In Writing, they have focused building their fine motor skills (important to strengthen our hands and fingers ready to write) and their ability to retell, sequence, and respond to different texts. Each class created their own ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’ story maps. They also drew pictures, wrote information and details all about their families. They were very excited to share these with their fellow classmates.

IT'S GREAT TO BE BACK
After three weeks, it’s great to be back on deck and talking to students and staff about all things sports. I also had a great week talking to students about their recent sporting achievements at Zone and Diocese events (Swimming and Winter Sports).
LISMORE DIOCESAN TEAM REPRESENTATIVES
Over the past weeks, we have had a large amount of Lismore Diocese Representatives play in their respective sports and who will now compete at Polding Trials in the coming months in the sports of Softball, Hockey, Union, League, Football and Swimming.
Congratulations to the following Diocesan Team

YEAR 5 AND 6 SPORTS GOOGLE CLASSROOM
This week, I implemented a Year 5 and 6 student Google Classroom due to the huge amount of sporting opportunities in Stage 3. This will allow all students in Years 5 and 6 the opportunity to view sporting calendars, register for trials and a number of other options. I hope this assists students and families and is another way to keep families and students up to date with sporting opportunities.
OUR HOUSE CAPTAINS HIT THE GROUND RUNNING
This week, I commenced meetings with our 2023 House Captains. Our initial meeting was to plan our coming weeks in terms of roles in order to serve their peers and teachers as well as to look at opportunities that they would like to be part of and lead. Next week, I will provide information about our meeting.
RED/BLUEY EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM
I am in the process of hopefully securing a new Rugby League Educational Program at St Peter’s. The Red/Bluey Educational Rugby League Program in 2023 for all students in Stage 1 (Kindergarten to Year 2). The program equips students and teachers with the tools to play a modified version of Rugby League, the greatest game of all, in a safe environment while delivering important education, health and welfare messages.
FUTSAL
St Peter’s will be competing on 3rd April in the Hastings Schools Futsal Titles. I thank Leon Poltorasky for the heads up to this event.
CROSS COUNTRY
Wednesday 29th March
On Wednesday, 29th March, we will run our School Cross Country event to be held on the St Peter’s and MacKillop Junior ovals. The day is always a wonderful opportunity to get out and active as well as for our community to come together and celebrate sport.
Age Championship trophies and runners-up medals will be presented to the following age divisions: 8yrs, 9yrs, 10yrs, 11yrs, and 12yrs. These divisions are also the selection process for our school zone team. The first six competitors for 9yrs and under, 10yrs, 11yrs, and 12yrs age divisions and gender qualify for the Hastings Zone Carnival, which will be held at Kempsey. Your child will run in the age group appropriate to the age that they are turning, or are turning this year up to December 31st. Students if selected, are expected to attend and move to the next level of Pathway Sport and beyond if successful.
We can’t wait to see families in attendance to cheer on our kids. Families will need to sign in at the office and then sign out once your child has raced. Your child will come from their classroom and run and then return to their classroom after their run.
Events will run approximately to the following times:
9.00am | 12 years | Girls/Boys (3km) |
9:30am | 11 years | Girls/Boys (3km) |
10:00am | 10 years | Girls/Boys (2km) |
10:20am | 9 years | Girls/Boys (1.5km) |
11.45am | Kindergarten | Girls/Boys (250m) |
12:00pm | Year 2 and 8 years | Girls/Boys (500m) |
12:15pm | Year 1 | Girls/Boys (500m) |
Things to note:
- Children to wear their Sport Uniform and apply SPF30+ sunscreen before coming to school.
- There will be sunscreen available in classrooms and at the oval for children to reapply throughout the day.
- Girls may run in bike pants/shorts.
- If wet, children need to bring old clothes and joggers to run in. A plastic bag and a towel are also required.
- Canteen Lunch Orders will run as a normal day.
- If we need to postpone the carnival due to dramatic weather conditions, we will advise asap via our “St Peter’s Sport” Facebook page and if time through Postman Pete.
SO YOU THINK YOU CAN PLAY?
On Friday, 24th March, both Andres will be competing against the best St Peter’s has to offer in a number of 5 on 2 basketball games (Years 5-6), and a trial will occur to pick our teams. The mini-games will kick off at 10:45am and conclude at 11:15am. The games will be played on the basketball court as students eat their lunch and watch this wonderful event, and then watch on afterwards if they would like to.
A huge thank you to Robert Linton from the Port Macquarie Basketball Association for his wonderful support of the event.
