Technology has allowed our children to slip back into the 80s and dance to some of the classics that many of our parents and carers may have been a little more familiar with back a few decades.
DJ... EvM had everyone on the floor twisting, pulsing, jumping, spinning and just moving to really cool beats.
A very big thank you to the Year 6 teaching team and students for coordinating a most enjoyable evening for all children.
CHEESE, BISCUITS AND EDUCATION THROUGH PUBERTY - only a politician could make a connection
Whilst the senior disco was underway Thursday evening, a number of our parents gathered in the staffroom under the direction of Mrs Amanda Thomas (Coordinator of Family School partnership) and Mrs Janita Thomson (Family School Partnership Consultant – Lismore CSO) to look at ways parents and carers can support children as they move through that particularly complex time of 10–16 years of age. We sincerely thank these ladies for their organisation of this webinar. Please see article further on in Mission.
Parents seem to really enjoy the nibbles and sharing of experiences and consideration of good input to assist through this period in their children’s lives.
TELL THEM FROM ME.. SURVEY OPEN
In the coming weeks we will be inviting students, teachers and parents to provide feedback on their experience of our school using an online survey. The surveys are an important part of our whole school evaluation and planning process.
We would like to invite you to complete the Tell Them From Me (TTFM) Partners in Learning survey. As we value the role of parents and carers within our school community, we would greatly appreciate your feedback. The information you provide will be used to maintain our commitment to working together in partnership to further improve student learning and wellbeing at St Peter’s.
The survey is anonymous and will take approximately 20 minutes to complete. You are able to access the parent survey now on your computer or mobile device by using the URL below:
SCHOOL REVIEW NEXT WEEK
St Peter’s welcomes the School Review panel, which will visit on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of next week.
The panel consists of:
Mr Graeme Hall - Independent panel leader (Australian Council of Educational Research member)
Mrs Elizabeth Watts - Principal, Mary Help of Christians, Sawtell
Mr Lee MacMaster - Assistant Director, Improvement and Performance, CSO, Lismore
The panel will spend three days talking with leadership, interviewing most staff members, family representatives and students.
They will walk through classrooms and have ongoing discussions with leadership and staff to ask questions and provide supportive and constructive feedback.
The Review is a great opportunity to reflect on the qualities and culture that characterise the strength of St Peter’s as well as assisting the school to consider potential opportunities for school improvement over the next 3 years.
The Tell Them From Me survey above will also provide our school critical feedback to support this process.
WEAR YELLOW FOR CANCER AWARENESS!
Two of our Year 6 students, Layla Fell and Edie Porter, have planned a special fundraiser day for cancer research to be held next Friday, 12th August. Students are invited to add something yellow to their school uniform, for example, a yellow t-shirt or yellow socks, and bring along a gold coin donation for the Cancer Council. Edie and Layla have prepared a presentation to be shared in classrooms next week talking about the good work the Cancer Council does, as well as how cancer has touched their own lives through family and friends. Please support the girls in their efforts to support the Cancer Council find a cure for cancer!
A gold coin donation may be brought to school on Friday 12th August, or a donation can be made via the St Peter’s Cancer Council fundraising page following this Cancer Council Donation Link
YEAR 5 RED ATTENDING MASS NEXT WEEK
Year 5 Red will be attending Mass at St Francis of Assisi Chapel next Wednesday. Students are asked to bring a
mask along for COVID safety purposes.
PREPARING FOR CONFIRMATION
This term our Year 3 students will begin their preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation, where they receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit in order to live their Catholic faith with commitment, compassion and courage. For families, this will begin with Confirmation Workshops in Weeks 6 and 7. Unlike previous years, there will be no information evening prior to the workshops. Information will be distributed to families in print and electronic form. The ceremonies will be held in Week 9, on 13th, 14th and 15th September. Please keep our confirmation candidates in your prayers as they undertake this next step in their sacramental journey.
YOUTH MINISTRY OFFICERS - BUILDING CONNECTION
Ella and Gian are the Youth Ministry Officers working at MacKillop this year. Part of the YMOs work is to build connections with our young people across our parish schools. We are lucky enough to have Ella and Gian work with us on Tuesdays and some Thursdays. They coordinate our Youth Ministry Group, “Little Fish,” on Tuesdays at Lunch 1, and often come across to work with different grades and classes on Thursdays.
INTERNATIONAL DAY OF FRIENDSHIP
Last Sunday the world celebrated the International Day of Friendship. Our world faces many crisis, such as poverty, violence, and abuse of human rights, that undermine peace, security, development and social harmony among the world's peoples. To confront these crises, they must be addressed at their root cause by promoting and defending a shared spirit of human solidarity that takes many forms, the simplest of which is friendship. The International Day of Friendship was proclaimed in 2011 by the UN General Assembly with the idea that friendship between peoples, countries, cultures and individuals can inspire peace efforts and build bridges between communities. On Wednesday, our staff joined in prayer for this very special endeavor, listening to what Pope Francis has to say about friendship, and acknowledging those we love in prayer. Prayer Link

AN IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT READING
‘If we want kids to WANT to read…Then read them AMAZING books EVERYDAY!’ Dr Seuss.
Take a few minutes to read the following information about reading with your child and how you can support them.
OSMOS - WORKING AND TECHNOLOGY
Year 1 and Kindergarten have borrowed the Classroom Osmo kits this term from the CSO Technology Lending Library. Osmos are attached to our class iPads and they have been using them to explore numbers, letters, sounds and shapes. Students develop their skills with technology in a hands-on way, actively engaging them in the learning process. Using the technology in a new way provided opportunities for students and teachers to problem solve and work collaboratively. Lots of fun was had in the learning spaces and the students are looking forward to improving their skills this term.
Our Senior Rugby League team played at the Northern Regional Final on Wednesday against the best teams north of Sydney. With only 4 Independent and Catholic Primary Schools in the northern section left, it was always going to a very tough day.
The boys initially came up against Star of the Sea Terrigal, and we knew this game was going to be very hard, as they have beaten Sydney schools. The boys started the game very well and lead the game from start to finish winning 24- 6.
In our second game, we played Rosary Park, and we had a comfortable win 36-6.
The third and final game turned out to be the Grand Final, as the winner of this game was going to Sydney. In what was a very even game, we played very well as a team, and when Isaac Green tried in the corner late in the game, it was St Peter’s running out winners 16- 6.
The team has been crowned Northern Champions, and will travel to Sydney to play in the State Final on Thursday August 25, 2022.
A huge thank you to all of our families who came to support the team. We had so many family members attend, but also extended families, staff families, St Agnes' Parish Staff (Stephen Pares), families of past students, as well as families whose children who weren’t playing, such as Zoe McWhirter (Tilly Sinclair’s Grandmother) and Mrs Grant's husband and his father! It was such a wonderful community day for the mighty St Peter’s. A special thank you to our coaches Mr Leary, Mr Lacey and Mr Rowlatt who did another amazing job with the team.
